Hello.
I am no wiser than anyone else as to when the journey began although I have read somewhere that it began on 15 August and wonder who really knows
Lord Woodbine was my father, hence my concern about the word 'obscure'.I looked up the definition and became confused as to how the writer had intended it,so I thank you for your reply. You were trying to highlight that many may not know of him.
He is not a household name but there is much more known about him since the article in the Independant
1 July 2010 ,by James McGrath and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, the article went global.
Given the choice of the three surjestions,I would choose the word 'legendry' simply because this story is now over 50 years old .He was a lively colourful character who surjested that the Beatles should be included in this journey.
Thanks again for your reply, sorry I couldn't be more helpful on the exact date of the journey

Hi Carol,

The word 'obscure' was never intended to be direspectful to Lord Woodbine, just a way of highlighting the fact that there isn't much known about him. I would hardly call him a household name - perhaps 'mythical' or 'legendary' would be more appropriate? Do you know of him btw? Perhaps you could help out with George Clinton's question above?

Hi - What with the anniversary of the 1st Hamburg trip I was doing some web surfing. Maybe you can answer this question.
Everyone seems to agree that the Beatles left England on August 16, 1960. Most say they arrived & played in Hamburg on August 17, but relatively small number of sites say it was August 18.
You mention the ferry to Holland. One of the sites that said Aug 18 mentioned that detail (ferry to the Hook of Holland). That site says it took a couple of nights to drive to Hamburg from there.
Since you also mention the destination of the ferry boat, I thought you might know, or have an opinion, on the drive to Hamburg.
I went as far as looking at Google Maps and saw the trip is about 5 hours by the modern highways, but if i checked 'avoid highways' the distance barely changed but the estimated time of the trip doubled to 10+ hours.

The info is scattered. I saw 2 different quotes of Alan Williams. In one he says they barely got the last ferry on the 16th. The other mentions getting lost and ending up in Arnhem.

So it seems they started from the Hook the next morning. Would a beat up van stuffed with kids get to Hamburg that night, given a little detour & looking around on the way?

Maybe this all sounds rather silly, but like a lot of folks I'm curious about The Boys.

Thanks

The writer mentions Lord Woodbine as an obsrure character, after the wonderful article in the Independant 1 July 2010 by James McGrath and Yasmin ALlibhai-Brown-Lord Woodbine the sixth Beatle- where 50 years on a more realistic picture has now been detailed of who Lord Woodbine was and the crucial part he was to play,I wonder if you could remove the word obscure, out of respect.
