I only had an hour before I had to check back in to my ferry trip home so I decided not to walk too far. Leaving the port by some stairs and a walkway that came out by a major road, I headed inland.

Welcome to Calais!

If you are planning to take your car to France on your crossing then remember that they drive on the opposite side of the road! A fact I had to take into account when crossing the roads during my walk. I walked along the road then walked around the houses in the outskirts of Calais. Hearing the locals speaking French made me feel like I was on a holiday, and even though the wind was pretty chilly, I was very content.

The outskirts of Calais

It is a 3 hour drive from Calais to Paris, and I was tempted to jump on a coach to sample the sights and sounds of the French capital, but there was work to do and after a while I headed back to the port to check-in for my return trip on the ferry.
